Selkirk VANGUARD Power Air Epic Pickleball Paddle

Promoted by Selkirk as "The Ultimate Power & Spin Paddle," the VANGUARD Power Air Epic adds new technology to one of their most popular traditionally-shaped paddles (it truly is "EPIC"). The Power Air series introduces a number of innovative features from Selkirk's Labs program that pickleball players have anticipated hitting broader market for some time. An aerodynamic opening in the throat aids in maneuverability and swing speed, while an edgeless design provides maximum hitting area. The throat flexes, resulting in increased dwell time of the ball on the face, and added power. The ProSpin+ NextGen Texture applied to the surface grabs pickleballs and imparts maximum spin. Next, the face is comprised of two layers of Fiberflex fiberglass (adapted from their AMPED series), and two layers of Quantum+ carbon fiber, providing the best in both power- and control-oriented materials. Finally, injected beneath that edgeless perimeter is a FlexFoam material which enhances durability of the edge, while spreading out the sweet spot and resisting torqueing of the paddle in your hand should you strike a ball off-center.

The VANGUARD Power Air Epic measures 15-3/4" long, and 8" wide enabling consistent all court play. The polymer core is 1/2" (0.5") thick, and the weight range is 7.7 – 8.1 ounces, with a weight average of 7.9 oz., and features a slightly longer handle than other models at 5-1/4" long.

Please note, because this is a truly edgeless paddle it will chip if struck against the court surface. We recommend applying one to two layers of electrical tape or branded edge guard tape to the edges of this paddle for protection against damage.

The VANGUARD Power Air Epic from Selkirk Pickleball takes the latest technology from Selkirk, and offers players of higher skill levels a paddle with all of the technology and spin capability we've ever seen from Selkirk in one package.

Actual grip sizes may vary up to 1/8".

Reviews of the VANGUARD Power Air Epic Paddle by Pickleball Central Staff:

"It was fun to see the work that was done by Selkirk Labs turn into a product that is available to all. The Vanguard Power Air Epic was a surprising paddle on first hit. The power was the first thing that jumped (pun intended) off the paddle. The feel of the paddle was familiar in the balance, shape and sweet spot location of the Epic line. But the way way the ball felt on drives was new for a Selkirk paddle. More than AMPED, but not quite as powerful as the Labs 002.

Then, when I worked my way to the net, I found the paddle was very consistent on dinks. I also found that with the texture of the paddle I could attack more balls as I was able to shape the shot with top spin to keep it in.

If someone sees the name Vanguard and is looking for a similar feel to the VANGUARD 2.0 series, they will be in for a shock. This paddle is not designed to be a soft, hyper-control paddle. This is truly a power paddle that has the added bonuses of consistency and spin.

If you're searching for a paddle which performs well in all the same ways, but is a bit more approachable to players in terms of skill and price point, I encourage you to try the
SLK Omega Max by Selkirk."

I been using this paddle for about 2.5 weeks. I've previously been using Selkirk's Amped S2. The Power Air EPIC is a good paddle. The ball bounces off of it much more quickly and forceful than off of the Amped S2. Because of the increased "power"/ bounce-off, there is less control. However, I recommend the paddle, as once you're accustomed to it, your control increases. I like my new paddle. I love the "Prestige" color. I, just, would like Selkirk to include a $20 paddle case for any PB paddle priced over $245.

I purchased this for my 13 year old grandson. It's an extravagant birthday gift, but I wanted to thank him for coming out each morning during summer vacation to play with me and the others in our group. He's surprisingly good for his age and the paddle appears to be helping him improve. He loves it.

Former tennis player and picking up Pickleball pretty quickly. Started with a cheap wal mart paddle. This is definitely way better than that. But I’m not sure the $250 price tags is justified. It’s not THAT much better. Good power. Less dead spots. It’s good. But it’s not so incredible that I can’t imagine playing with something else

This paddle is weighted so that you have both power and control. Similar paddles with 14mm thickness are so light that control is worse. Nice paddle

It is a nice paddle ..I have played with other very nice paddles . I Would classify its performance as in the top 3 out of 27 different paddle of various brands . I Can not say for sure since my perfect weight for a paddle is 7.6 oz. and even though I requested 7.7 oz. , I opted to accept a 7.8 for the sake of convenience of earliest possible delivery. I am a little disappointed with a paddle on the upper end of price not being sent with a neoprene cover. The action indicates that your pride in the paddle is second to profit

The paddle has a lot of power, but the feel is taking a while to get use to and control is an issue!
