Designed for players seeking only the highest quality training program experience, Pickleball Central has partnered with the Holua Tennis and Pickleball Center in Kailua Kona, Hawaii to present a Pickleball In Paradise Training Camp. This camp will be led by Coach Steve Dawson, one of the world's best pickleball players and instructors. He is a two-time US OPEN Pro Gold Medalist, Huntsman World Champion, Canadian National Champion, and multi-time USAPA Nationals Medalist. Steve has over 25 years as a tennis and pickleball teaching professional, and is co-owner of the Bobby Riggs Tennis & Pickleball Center in San Diego, CA. After a successful collegiate tennis career (two-time Big 8 Champion at Univ. of Oklahoma), Steve became a full-time tennis coach. Years ago, Steve developed a passion for pickleball, and quickly became one of the sport's best players.
The camps will be run using a program developed by Coach Dawson using his 25+ years of competitive training experience. These camps are designed for players rated 3.0 and above who are seeking a "play hard, compete hard, have fun" environment. All of the drills and skills are designed to translate immediately into competitive play, and each drill is based on a specific competition objective. The program is designed not only to improve your mechanics and shot techniques, it is designed to help improve your approach to game and match play - making you both a better player, and a more formidable competitor. Over three days, you will spend over 15 hours (plus optional open play time) in thoughtfully structured clinics, playing and competing with similarly skilled players. You should expect a lot of personalized instruction, as the instructor to student ratio is 8 to 1, and each drill is led by Coach Dawson and his hand picked Championship Caliber 5.0 Guest Pro Instructors. Unique to these camps is the use of a World Class Champion Guest Instructors who will share unique insights into what it takes to succeed at the highest level of the sport. The Guest Pros work closely with Coach Dawson so you will get access to an amazing amount of face-to-face time with some of the best players in the game.
Our Pickleball Training Camps will focus on skill development, strategy, shot technique, practice methods, and mental preparation to improve your overall game. Located approximately 15 miles south from the Kona airport on the "Big Island" of Hawaii, you will find first class facilities at the Holua Tennis and Pickleball Center. A combination of dedicated pickleball courts and striped tennis courts await you so you can play "Pickleball in Paradise." The facilities feature 8 pickleball courts and 10 tennis courts giving us plenty of space for an amazing event.
Two adjacent resorts provide incredible accommodations for the event, allowing you to book a fantastic "Pickleball in Paradise" vacation. Hawaii is a fantastic vacation destination, and the location in Kona is amazing with some of the world's best beaches and eco-tourism opportunities. Camp Registrants will be provided a special discounted hotel and resort rate at the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa at Keauhou Bay that you can use not just for the camp dates, but also if you want to arrive early, or extend your stay after the camp. Discount rate of $219/night is available for camp participants and details will be provided upon registration for the Training Camp. Space is limited.
Hawaii Open Pickleball Championship Tie-In
Stay & Join In the Fun: The Kona Pickleball Training Camp will be held just prior to the Hawaii Open Pickleball Championships, and players will be invited to join in the Pickleball In Paradise Festival Fun Day on Wednesday, January 23rd (even if you aren't competing in the tournament on Thursday the 24th through Saturday the 26th). The Festival is being managed by the Hawaii Open Tournament team, and you can register for the optional Festival Fun Day for $50 via the link below The Pickleball in Paradise Festival will include a Pro-Am event with some of the world's best pro players battling it out with their amateur partners in a star studded, but fun affair. Guest Pro: Tyson McGuffin - Tyson originally comes from a tennis background but has quickly transitioned his competitive spirit and natural athletic ability to a successful career in pickleball. In just a few short years he has become both an accomplished player and top-rated pickleball instructor. He is IPTPA Certified and holds the USPTA P1 Certification. He is the 2018 US Open Singles Champion, 2018 US Open Bronze Medalist in Pro Doubles, 2018 Atlanta Open Singles Champion, 2016-2018 Int'l Indoor Singles Champion and a 2017 USAPA Nationals Singles Champion.
Guest Pro: Morgan Evans - Morgan is one of the most respected coaches in all of pickleball. As the Head Coach of Team Selkirk, Morgan is a much sought after teaching professional. After a decade long career teaching tennis around the world, he caught the pickleball bug jumped in with both feet. In addition to a formal and extensive background teaching pickleball, Morgan is one of the world's best pickleball players. He was a 2018 US OPEN Menís Doubles 5.0 25+ Silver Medalist and 5.0 35+ Mixed Gold Medalist, 2018 SoCal Classic Menís Pro Silver Medalist, 2017 Tournament of Champions Menís Doubles Open Division Champion, 2017 US OPEN Menís Doubles 5.0 25+ and Mixed 5.0 35+ Gold Medalist.
Guest Pro: Kyle Yates - Kyle is widely considered one of the world's best pickleball players. He has won gold medals in the Open Pro category at the US Open, USAPA Nationals, and Tournament of Champions. 2018 has been very successful for Kyle. At this year's US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples (the largest tournament in the world), he took home four gold medals and one silver medal including gold in Men's Doubles Open Pro and gold in Mixed Doubles Open Pro. Kyle has taught camps and clinics all over the world, and is a founding supporter of the IPTPA.
Guest Pro: Jennifer Dawson: Jennifer is one of the most accomplished Tennis and Pickleball professionals in the world with over 30 years of professional teaching and playing experience. ITF World # 1 ranking in 45 and over, and ranked # 1 in the US in Women's Tennis 35, 40, & 45 age groups, she is the winner of multiple national championships. Jennifer is a four-time US OPEN Pickleball Championships Pro Gold Medalist, and two-time USAPA National Champion.
Guest Pro: Irina Tereschenko: Irina has been playing and coaching racquet sports for over 20 years, and is one of the top rated women's pickleball players in the world. She has coached tennis at Texas Tech and the University of Washington, and has given pickleball clinics in the US and in Europe. Her tournament success is amazing. She is both a USAPA Nationals and US Open Gold Medalist. In 2018 she won four medals at the US Open Picklehall Championships.
Guest Pro: Brian Ashworth: With over 5 years of playing/teaching experience, Brian is considered one of the most unique, and beloved personalities in pickleball. Known as "the Beard", Brian is a touring pickleball pro who has worked for Pickleball Central for four years. Brian is a certified instructor through IPTPA, and has taught camps, clinics, and workshops all over the world. Brian is a 2017 and 2018 US OPEN Men's Doubles 19+ Gold Medalist, 2018 Men's Skill/Age Doubles 19+ Bronze Medalist, 2016 US OPEN Men's Pro Bronze Medalist, 2015 Nationals Men's Open Bronze Medalist, and the 2016 Canadian Nationals Men's Open Silver Medalist.
