adidas ADIPOWER CTRL Pickleball Paddle

The adidas ADIPOWER paddles utilize an innovative combination of materials to produce pickleball paddles which offer offensively-oriented players a distinct measure of control when forced back on defense. adidas calls the face material "carbon aluminized," which is essentially a soft coating over a much harder material, yielding a paddle with enjoyably different degrees of response and touch at different depths on the court. Advanced players will love the feel as the ball dwells on the face just long enough to maximize your shot selection. The "CTRL" model (pronounced "control") is an all-court shape which provides a good blocking width that is maneuverable with a mid-weight range. The high-density 14.28mm (0.56") thick polypropylene core adds another measure of control to your shots.

The ADIPOWER CTRL Pickleball Paddle is offered in a weight range of 7.7 - 8.2 oz., with a 4-3/4" handle length and small'ish 4-1/8" grip circumference. Overall, the paddle measures 16" long by 8" wide, and features both adidas' structural reinforcement tech around the perimiter of the paddle, as well as their "Spin Blade" surface texture to enhance lateral ball movement when you want it. What adidas brings to the market with their ADIPOWER CTRL is a great, soft playing paddle for advanced and pro-level pickleballers.

Please Note: adidas’ Carbon Aluminized surface treatment will sometimes cause a slight blurring underneath the graphic. This is caused when the carbon shows through the aluminum, and it does not affect the performance of the paddle.

5 of 5 Noticeably Larger Sweet Spot September 21, 2021
Reviewer: M.P. from USA
I played with the ADIPOWER CTRL paddle for about an hour and a half. The paddle took a few minutes to adapt to, as it is balanced with more weight toward the top edge of the paddle. Outdoors, I was able to power through some substantial wind without losing any of the control that I wanted. The sweet spot is noticeably larger and easier to hit than other similarly shaped paddles that I have tried. The squared-off shape of the handle made it very easy to know the orientation of the paddle face just by the feel of the handle in my hand. I have large hands, and the handle diameter was a good fit for my hand. It was easy to hold on to no matter if my hand was dry or wet. The paddle that I used was an easy weight for me to play with for extended play times. The carbon aluminized face and the polypropylene honeycomb core of the paddle give it a softer feel which allowed a good variation of shot choices. The ball stays in contact with the paddle face just a bit longer than it does on harder faced paddles. I was able to put plenty of power on the ball when I wanted to, easy spin when I wanted it, and confident control when playing softer strategic drop shots and dinks. I was also surprised by the subdued sound of the paddle and found that I like the quieter pop. It seemed to have a distracting effect on my opponents.

5 of 5 Good Control with Plenty of Power September 21, 2021
Reviewer: Martha S. from Sun City, TX
I played with the Adidas ADIPower CTRL paddle. I enjoyed playing with it! The grip was the perfect size for me (4-1/8") and felt very comfortable in my hand.  It seemed more like a "power" paddle which fits my game. I also found I had good control when connecting with the ball. It provided power on my serve as well as ground strokes. It also provided needed control when volleying at the NVZ. It would be a great addition to a player's equipment arsenal! The paddle would be best suited for a player who wants more power and less cushion while still giving the needed control to place their shots. The paddle inspired confidence in my serves, volleys, smashes and dinks because it was very responsive to me. It had a good sweet spot and balance in the paddle. The thing I liked most about the paddle was that it felt very natural in my hand. It was balanced and the grip fit my hand very well. When I hit the ball the paddle felt like an extension of my hand.

5 of 5 Couldn't Put It Down! September 21, 2021
Reviewer: Karen Faber from Rehoboth Beach, DE
My plan for testing this paddle was to play with it for an hour and then let my friends take turns to get their opinions. That hour turned into two, unfortunately for my friends, I would not let this paddle out of my hands. Let’s start from the bottom. The Adidas logo on a shiny red background is a nice touch. Moving up to the grip, having the red background carried through underneath the black grip is very sharp looking. It reminds me of the steering wheel of a sports car. The face itself is blazoned with the iconic Adidas logo with a shiny geometric light and dark grey pattern underneath. It is one good looking paddle, certainly draws your attention. But let’s face it, looks only get you so far. How does it play you ask? I was worried that the slightly higher weight of my test model and smooth face would cause a loss of power and/or control. Quite the contrary. I hit with a ton of power with no vibration, pin point accuracy and just enough spin to be dangerous. My soft game, specifically my two-handed backhand cross court dinking was effortless. Probably my most favorite characteristic of the paddle was how it handled when being attacked at the kitchen line. It seemed to absorb and drop the ball back over the net. It definitely kicked my defensive game up a notch; turned a gun fight into a pillow fight. I think that this paddle is most suited for an intermediate to advanced player. Specifically, someone whose game might need a little giddy-up to get to the next level. It might sound completely silly but my mind changed the name of the paddle from ADIPOWER to ATTA GIRL by the end of my test drive. Glad to see that Adidas is jumping into the pickleball paddle world, it's indicative of just how popular the sport has become.

5 of 5 Pop, and Good Control September 21, 2021
Reviewer: Anne H. from Wilsonville, OR
LOVED the grip -- just slightly spongy, with holes to reduce sweat and slipping. Handle is a nice length whether you're using a two-handed or one-handed backhand. The weight of the paddle was just right for me (a 70-year-old woman). The ball coming off the paddle definitely has a "pop" to it that gives you lots of power. Soft shots work well, too, with reasonably good control. With more practice, I'm sure my third-shot drops would improve using this paddle. The best feature to me was the power for returns of serve and overheads. The paddle would be best suited for a player who has already mastered the basic strokes and is looking for more power. One other friend tried the paddle and remarked on its power, too.

5 of 5 Over-hitters Gain Control September 21, 2021
Reviewer: Ron Franke from Sun City, TX
Overall I found the paddle to be a solid performer that would be a good choice for players at any skill level, but is probably best suited for intermediate to advanced level players that like a paddle that combines both power and control. The paddle provides a good mix of power and control, but to me felt as though it leaned somewhat more to control/touch than power. The paddle feels lighter than it is, so it was easy to react quickly during hand battles at the net. This also made it easy to soften up drop shots and dinks. The thing I liked most about the paddle was its soft feel. Because the ball feels like it stays on the paddle face for a long time on drop shots, dinks, and resets, I was able to hit all of those shots consistently and with confidence. The ADIPOWER CTRL paddle has a big sweet spot, and was forgiving and stable, even on off-center hits when volleying and hitting ground strokes. The paddle face design and texture helps generate spin, and players that prefer to use spin will like the ease in generating both topspin and slice spin. I was able to generate good topspin especially on forehand roll shots at the net. Hitting backhand slice serve returns and slice dinks was easy once I figured out that the paddle generated more spin than the paddle I normally use. The paddle provides solid power when hitting ground strokes and hard volleys. Players that tend to over hit their shots will appreciate the control the paddle provides to keep hard hit shots in the court. I was able to swing confidently to achieve pace, depth, and placement on ground strokes and serves. The paddle provides plenty of pop when hitting overheads and touch volleys for winners. The grip is high quality and was comfortable when using a continental grip. Despite the heat and humidity, the paddle did not slip. Anyone that prefers a slightly larger and more squared off grip will like the way the paddle grip feels.
