Wilson Tour BLX Paddle

The Wilson Tour BLX paddle has a basalt fiber weave facing material. No other pickleball paddle uses basalt in it's facing. We at PickleballCentral.com believe basalt fiber weave is very similar to graphite in weight and performance and therefore classify the Tour as a graphite paddle.

Wilson has long been making tennis rackets for decades and is able to transfer some of it's cutting edge technology into its emerging pickleball brand. The basalt fiber weave is one example of advanced technology, but the way the paddle is decorated is unlike any other pickleball manufacturer. We believe Wilson is using a special coating on the woven paddle face that is extraordinarily strong and wear resistant. The paddle faces on all the Wilson paddles have a metallic sheen to them. The Tour BLX is a very polished beautiful pickleball paddle.

There's serious high quality feel to the paddle that is unique from other paddles.

Many parts of the paddle are traditional. It has a black edge guard, honeycomb interior that appears to be a high density, small cell size Nomex, and a grip with cushion and perforation for moisture control.

Here's a transcript of the video: Hi, my name is Ben Porter from Wilson Sporting Goods. Iím the Global Product Manager for Pickleball. Today Iím going to talk to you about the Tour BLX Paddle. So on this paddle we have a basalt fiber weaved into the paddle for effortless power. The core is a PowerComb technology. There is a shock-stop dampening system for protection of the paddle. The grip is a Cushion-Aire grip, which gives you the ultimate feel and comfort. It weighs 8.8 ounces, so itís gonna be for a player that can really swing into that ball. It gives you a lot of power, and this is available at PickleballCentral. We hope you enjoy the paddle.

Here's a transcript of the video: Hi, David Johnson from Pickleball Central here.
We're going to talk a little bit and do a demo on the top-of-the-line Wilson Tour BLX. Probably the most expensive paddle we have in stock at this point in time. It has some unique characteristics. They have a basalt fiber in it. We just wanted to saw one in half and be able to take a look at exactly what's in one of the top-of-the-line paddles. So here goes.
So there you are. It has a traditional honeycomb, probably a Nomex type material about an eighth-inch cell so it's a small cell, gives it lots of support and you have the very thin basalt fiber interweaved into the face of the paddle. So if you have any questions about the tour BLX, there you go.

Pickle Ball Paddle January 31, 2017
Reviewer: Kathy Kolbow from Millers Creek , NC United States
First of all thank you Pickle Ball Central for your kind and quick return of a paddle previously bought and did not care for. I love my Wilson BLX.  I finally feel like I have a  paddle that fits in my hand and works for me. I would  recommend Pickle Ball Central because they explain how to fit a racket to your hand so  I was able to order the weight and the size grip I wanted. They truly care about the customer.

What a pleasure doing business on the site!  Variety of product, super service, fair prices, and speedy delivery -- what more can you ask for? Used the 30 Day Test Drive option for most recent purchase. No questions - simply returned the paddle for the new Wilson model which I am very pleased with. Thanks PC.com!

Wilson BLX July 30, 2016
Reviewer: Mike Miura from Seattle, WA United States
Playing with this paddle for a few weeks.  I've also hit with Wilson BLX tennis racquets.  Great paddle/balance/quality.  As with Wilson tennis racquets, mis-hits are not rewarded with any type of quality shot.  A matter of getting used to the sweet spot.  You also need to generate your own power, better for a faster swing.

Great paddle but I think it has a defect April 19, 2016
Reviewer: Mark M. from Austin, TX United States
Purchased August 2015. Paddle is a little on the heavy side but once acclimated, it is excellent on power, control, feel, and solid on off-center hits. Definitely recommended for the advanced player who can handle it and appreciate its qualities.
Update-4/19/16. I still enjoy the playing characteristics of the paddle, however, the rubber bumper guard around the top of the paddle came loose and I have to re-position it over the top edge of the paddle more often than I would like. There are two other players at my playing location who have the same problem with their Tour BLXs. Another Pickleball Central reviewer has also had bumper problems with the paddle. Based on above, there has to be a manufacturing defect with the paddle. I would be a little leery about purchasing this paddle until Wilson corrects this problem. Sad, because Wilson has a reputation for producing quality products. I have read that Wilson is now having problems with the quality of their new Neon Flare pickleball.
