Vulcan V730 MAX Pickleball Paddle

The V730 MAX Pickleball Paddle by Vulcan was made in collaboration with Team Vulcan's approachable pro, Tyler Loong. With it's unique shape, it marries together all of the technology-forward benefits of Vulcan's V700 series, with the reach and leverage enjoyed by fans of an elongated face. Control and stability are delivered from the outside, in, starting with Vulcan's proprietary V-Skin 7-layer face material build-up, further reinforced by TeXtreme carbon fiber "V-Struts" which run from the top corners down to the neck of the paddle.

Next, the V730 MAX's neck is reinforced with Vulcan's Dura-Flex material to all but eliminate breakage at the most flexible point of a pickleball paddle. This is particularly critical in elongated paddles where the ball is often stricken at a much greater distance from the handle. All of these advanced materials are mated to the V730's 13mm thick core by a process called "thermal diffusion welding" which eliminates the need for excessive bonding materials and allows Vulcan ultimate control over the paddle's balance point and weight distrubution.

The V730 MAX Paddle by Vulcan measures 16 3/4" long, and is offered at an average of 8.0 oz. in weight. The handle length is 4 3/4" with a medium 4 1/4" circumference, and is wrapped in Vulcan's industry-leading textured grip. Enjoy all the reach you could ever want, in a balanced and technologically-advanced package.

Q&A About The V730 MAX With Top Pro Tyler Loong:

Q - "Can you tell us a bit about what it means to be a part of Team Vulcan?"

A - "Being a part of Team Vulcan has been the best experience for me in pickleball. Many people throw around the term "family" when describing things like this, I don't say this lightly but Team Vulcan is my family. Not only does Vulcan continue to innovate, inspire and lead, they are more than that. They cheer and support each of their players and they are constantly innovating. Every month there is something new they are working on and it is an honor and inspiring to be part of Team Vulcan."

Q - "You have played with several paddles in your career, and over the last few years you have favored an elongated paddle. What led you to that shape, and what do you see as the advantages?"

A - "For the longest time, even when I was using more of a standard shape, I was always envious of those that played with elongated shapes. To me, the benefits outweighed the cons to using an elongated paddle, such as more power, longer reach, etc. When I tested out the Vulcan V550, instantly I fell in love and knew that it was the paddle that would best suite my style of play and take my game to the next level, which it did."

Q - "Knowing you used to play with the V550 and have now switched to the V730, what would you say are the advantages of the new paddle?"

A - "The full model name is the V730 MAX - and as the name suggests, it truly does "max" out on touch and power. The main advantage over the V550 is the reaction the ball has on the new V730 surface. It pops off the paddle much quicker allowing me to be more successful with speed-ups and drives."

Q - "A lot of people use one paddle for singles and another for doubles. Do you use the same paddle for singles and doubles, or do you switch? And why?"

A - "I have seen some people do this - but I use the same paddle for singles and doubles. I feel that you should be able to make those changes internally rather than have to make a switch externally. Since I use the same paddle for both singes/doubles, I feel as if I am truly one with my paddle and I know how it reacts better than if I were to switch between singles/doubles."

Q - "Are there any aspects of your game or shot selection that you have changed since switching to the new paddle?"

A - "I have been working on being more aggressive and 'popping/speeding up' my volleys a little bit more, which I like to think I have been having more success with!"

Q - "We know that the top-rated pro players often add weight to change the power or balance of a paddle. Have you done anything to adjust the paddle weight or balance to optimize it for your game?"

A - "I have not yet added any weight to my paddles; however, I know a lot of people are doing this at the moment. My preferred weight is around 8.2. I have been warming up to the idea of adding more weight, but I don't like to add anything externally to my paddles if possible so I've been in a debate with myself on this topic."

Q - "What player types, or player backgrounds, do you feel would benefit from playing with the new V730?"

A - "Anyone who has played with an elongated shape and likes that shape, I would recommend it. Some of those players could be current or former tennis players, racquetball players, or who have experience with other types of racquet/paddle sports. These types of players are used to a longer paddle/racquet so the switch might be more natural. Also, any player who wants just that extra reach when you are up at the non-volley zone, or wanting more power from the drives; basically, I think everyone should at least try out an elongated paddle, and why not start with the V730!?"

Q - "Does paddle color matter to you and what is your favorite?"

A - "Yes and no. When I really like the color pattern on a paddle I tend to have a little more confidence; I'm sure this is in my deep subconscious, though! Generally speaking, I like simple colors or patterns. I really like black colored paddles and sometimes a couple of colors to add some pop. For me, I've never been a big fan of the crazy/wild patterns that you see on some paddles (I understand most of these are for fun, though)."

Q - "Do you have any special rituals that you follow during tournament days that you think amateur players might benefit from following?"

A - "Actually, no. I'm somewhat particular with what I eat the morning of (very minimal). Days prior to a tournament, I train and try to watch film. That's about it."

Q - "How did you discover pickleball?"

A - "Tyler Sheffield, who at the time was one of the best senior players in the country, invited me to play since he knew I was an avid tennis player. Just like that, I was hooked and couldn't stop playing. Sheffield was a neighbor of mine."

Q - "When did you know being a professional was an option, and what was the process to go pro?"

A - "After playing my first tournament and performing extremely well, I knew I was right there with the best of the best. I committed to playing pro and traveling to tournaments and have loved the journey. The process to go pro will be different for everyone, but it mainly entails practicing a lot and traveling and competing in a lot of tournaments."

Q - "What's one piece of advice you'd go back and give yourself?"

A - "Keep working hard and giving it all you have, and also find ways to enjoy the moment. This has happened to me frequently...I get so caught up in training, competing, and winning that at times it is very stressful. At times I wish I could've taken a step back to simply enjoy the process."

Q - "What's your pregame go-to food? Post-game meal?"

A - "Pregame food - very minimal, fruit (apples/bananas), water, light snacks. Post game - normally a sandwich or a fast-food joint close by the tournament venue. I'm easy."

Q - "If you could add a super power to your pickleball skills, what would it be?"

A - "Reading minds! I love to Erne and I feel like the reason I'm able to be successful with many of them is because I'm anticipating their shots. Normally it works out...normally."

Q - "If you weren't a pro pickleball player, what other sport could you have gone into or would you have wanted to go pro in?"

A - "Tennis, possibly. I played at the Division I collegiate level. Or I like to think my basketball talent could've gotten me somewhere, but that might be wishful thinking."

Q - "If pickleball players had walk up songs like they do in baseball, what would yours be?"

A - "My taste in music changes all too often, but anything that gets my blood flowing; some hip hop, electronic, poppy, even some Greatest Showman or One Direction will get me hyped!"

Q - "Other than your paddle, what's your one piece of gear you can't live without?"

A - "Depends on where I'm competing, but if its in a humid area I could not live without Vulcan Rosin Powder that keeps my hands dry in humid conditions. Otherwise, it would be my Vulcan VPRO backpack. This bag is my carry on when I travel, my tournament bag, and carries everything I could ever ask for...unless I forget to pack it!"

5 of 5 Changed My Mind Quickly March 9, 2022
Reviewer: Matt Moore from Taylorsville, UT United States
I finally got to use this new paddle last night and for the first half of the first game I played I was prepared to send it back and try something else.  Then I had a few shots that would normally be out of my reach, but this time I was not only able to get to them, but they also felt like they were close to the sweet spot.  As the night went on and I got used to the paddle I really liked it more and more.  Then when I switched to a singles match, I really loved it.  It will be my go to for most matches for now.

5 of 5 An upgrade from the V550 Hybrid! September 7, 2021
Reviewer: Ryan Neil Vega from Raleigh, NC United States
I have played with the Vulcan 550 Hybrid for the last 10 months. I enjoyed the paddle, but felt like something was missing. Then comes this Vulcan V730 MAX paddle. It is a slightly heavier paddle with a lot more pop. This is what I felt like was missing from the V550. Smashes, touch shots, and rally shots feel so much better.

Ordered a newly released vulcan paddle. It was a little nicked-up upon arrivel. I sent a note to customer service, they immediately quick-shipped me a replacement paddle - and provided free shipping label and return envelop to send back the old paddle. Easy to deal with and super fast.
