GAMMA Hellbender Graphite Paddle

The Hellbender Graphite Paddle, by GAMMA Pickleball, has an elongated face for better follow through and a powerful swing. This lengthy style contributes to a broad sweet spot that will make your shots feel more reactive. Made with NeuCore technology, it's 25% thicker than the manufacturer's previous designs which results in a soft touch that reduces vibrations. Players will find it easier to ensure every shot hits its mark thanks to the textured graphite face which helps add spin.

The GAMMA Hellbender Pickleball Paddle has a weight average of 7.6 oz, giving it a medium weight slightly on the lighter end for extra speed during exchanges. The handle is 4 1/2" long with a small grip circumference. The cushioned, honeycomb style has a tacky feel to prevent slipping.

This Hellbender Graphite Pickleball Paddle by GAMMA offers a sensitive feel and balanced power in every hit for players who prioritize dynamic play.

Actual grip sizes may vary up to 1/8".

Reviews of the Gamma Hellbender Paddle by Pickleball Central Staff:

"The Hellbender is another great addition to the GAMMA Neucore line up. A thick, soft playing core is coupled with a graphite face to give you a great control paddle. The modified teardrop shape and the mid 7 ounce weight means the paddle is quick to the ball and helps provide some nice power. It feels like they took the incredible Compass and slightly shortened it, slightly widened it, and made it a little lighter. It is exciting to see a Neucore paddle in this weight range. It will open up GAMMA Neucore technology with its incredible ball control to a whole new group of players to whom weight really matters."

"I believe that Gamma is one of the few companies that really delivers breakthrough shapes in the sport. The R&D that they devote to how shape impacts playability is thoughtful, and produces some fantastic products. The HellBender paddle is another example of how subtle changes in shape create a fantastic paddle with unique play characteristics. The Hellbender is a thick core polypropylene core paddle with a high quality graphite (carbon fiber) face. Generally this combination creates a consistent large sweet spot perfect for dinks, drops, & blocks. But Chuck and the R&D team at Gamma then shaped this paddle to try and improve on traditional boxey, squared up shapes. I prefer a lighter paddle in the 7.4 to 7.7 ounce range, and this paddle was right in that perfect zone for me. My test unit was 7.5 ounces. It gave me confidence on finesse shots, my hand speed was good, and I didn't feel like I was overpowering the ball. Gamma does a fantastic job on grips, and this one is fantastic. The shorter handle combined with the 4-1/8" grip gives the paddle a very large surface area for blocking defense, and quick volleys. What is most unique is the shape - I would describe is as a very gently rounded teardrop that biases the balance a bit up the face towards to head, which on drives helps create more power. They claim this has a larger sweet spot, and in play testing I can confirm it. Gamma's Compass has a very subtle rounding shape at the hip of the paddle, and this one uses some similar arcs on the sides to maximize the sweet spot. This is definitely my cup of tea!"

I have had my same paddle for 10 plus years decided to try a new paddle but I really don’t see much difference I will continue to use the new paddle a few more weeks to try to adjust.

Hellbender is a light paddle with a great feel and touch but also has a lot of pop to it. Very happy with it.

My current paddle is a Gamma Needle, but I thought I needed one slightly more flexible but still longer. Hellbender 7.5 played easily, but I didn't make good long shots. My partner took it on, and she played really well with it, I think because she is stronger than me. So I've gone back to Needle, and she is enjoying Hellbender.

The Hellbender has a good combination of: 1. size of sweet spot 2, Cushioning to slow down hard hits at the net and 3. Texture on face for adding spin to hits. This paddle is not a hard hitter if you are looking for something that will return at high speed. Speed is adequate, but this racquet is built more for controlling shots.

It’s an excellent paddle for players to want to enhance their touch and precision. There was a noticeable improvement in my game after I replaced a prior harder and less expensive paddle with the Hellbender. I would not, however, recommend tpaddle for those who are primarily interested in a pure power game.

I am new to Pickleball and was looking for a paddle that would work well for me. I am 74 and a petite 5’ tall woman. I needed a small grip and a paddle that was not too heavy. I tried a Prince paddle and the Hell Bender. The Hell Bender just felt right and has given me confidence in building my skills. I think this paddle would be a good choice for beginners- intermediate players.

This paddle is perfect. It is not too heavy and not too light. The shape gives it a little more speed and a slightly larger sweet spot. I love the color and the name is cool too.
