Selkirk VANGUARD Power Air S2 Pickleball Paddle

Touted by Selkirk as "The Ultimate Power & Spin Paddle," the VANGUARD Power Air S2 combines unique power and control elements for a paddle that performs from the baseline to the kitchen. The largest hitting area in the Power Air line, combined with the FlexFoam perimeter, means a generous sweet spot for a strong short game. Innovations such as the open throat, edgeless design, and four layers of QuadFlex Hybrid Carbon Fiber/Fiberglass comprising each face lead to powerful ground strokes and overhead put-aways. Atop the hybrid face Selkirk incorporates their ProSpin+ texture treatment, which is a long-lasting, highly gritty surface delivering maximum spin on your cuts and slices, and maximum frustration to your opponents.

The VANGUARD Power Air S2 sports a 4-3/8" long handle, wrapped in Selkirk's popular Geo Grip, to go with a 15-3/4" overall paddle length. And at a full 8" wide, the S2 shape is the perfect shield to enhance your blocking defense. The paddle features 360° Proto Molding which reinforces a consistent feel, despite the open-throat design, even when your human side shows and you mis-hit the ball. Weight range tolerance is from 7.7 to 8.1 ounces, with a weight average of 7.9 oz. For players developing a complete game, the VANGUARD Power Air S2 allows you to utilize all the tools in your arsenal.

Please note, because this is a truly edgeless paddle it will chip if struck against the court surface. We recommend applying one to two layers of electrical tape or branded edge guard tape to the edges of this paddle for protection against damage.

The VANGUARD Power Air S2 from Selkirk Pickleball gives players the confidence they need to hit with power and spin, along with the accuracy to keep the ball in the court.

Actual grip sizes may vary up to 1/8".

Reviews of the VANGUARD Power Air S2 Paddle by Pickleball Central Staff:

"I've always appreciated the S2 shape from Selkirk, because it's wide (which translates to a huge sweet spot and great blocking defense), and has a shorter-than-average handle which fits my 'finger up' grip style quite well. Now, S2 performance is leveling-up by incorporating certain learnings from the Selkirk LABS R&D program, such as the open-throat design, edgeless perimeter, and thin profile for decreased wind drag and enhanced maneuverability. Throw in the grittiest surface texturing of any Selkirk pickleball paddle in history, and I found myself bending and shaping shots without really even having to think about it.

These Power Air paddles aren't for newer players still trying to figure out the strengths and weaknesses in their game; rather, in experienced hands, these paddles are weapons on the court. So, if you have soft hands that can keep dinks low and reset from mid-court without needing much help from your paddle, grab a VANGUARD Power Air in your favorite Selkirk shape and start powering ground strokes and overheads past your opponents like never before."

Played 2 times with paddle. It produces alot of power and spin. Off center hits are not as forgiving as i would like for them to be. I also got the shorter handle, which i did not like either. Just a preference. The quality is outstanding, however it was not the paddle for me.

I play with my index finger on the bottom of the paddle. People who grip the whole grip might not like the paddle, I love it.

It's a light enough weight that it doesn't hurt my wrists. The surface is amazing, the grip is secure & I like that there is no edge.

  • S2 Power Air vs. Amped S2

This is my second review of this paddle. Initially, I felt it was similar to my Amped S2 paddles, just with more pop. Now that I've played with it for a while, I've decided this paddle lacks touch for third shots and dinking... at least for me, a 3.5-4.0 player. I've switched back to the Amped S2 and my touch shots are back. I'm keeping this paddle for singles, though, as I do like the added zip on ground strokes. But I don't feel it is a great paddle for doubles... the Amped S2 IS a phenomenal paddle for doubles. Hope this helps.

Found that it's easier to handle shots at kitchen line using the S2 paddle. Really enjoy playing with it.

I have been using the Amped S2 and really liked it, overall. However, I thought I would try the Power Air because I consider myself more of a power player, looking to speed up at the earliest opportunity. After reading the reviews, I was really surprised how quickly I got used to the Power Air, coming from the Amped S2. I weight all my paddles to 9 ounces, so it felt very "normal" to me... the swing weight was almost identical...and I love the extra pop in hand battles and drives. The dinking does take a few outings to get comfortable, but I really like this paddle and will make it my primary choice moving forward as I just love the pop and the spin improvement over the Amped. If you are an aggressive player looking to speed up as your primary MO, give this baby a try!

Nice paddle but I needed more control not power. Plus this handle was too short for me.

Great paddle but I had to return due to the fact that I live in a retirement community that has adopted the green paddle policy put out by Sun City in Florida. Since I will play at least 90% here just can't justify the purchase. Again Great technology will repurchase if my situation changes
